Road Bread

I'm continuing my ongoing spree of weekend travel and heading down to Cincinnati to visit with family for a few days. I've got my bags packed, and I've even managed to smuggle a few of these hearty muffins along for the ride, which I whipped up the other night in an effort to use a few forgotten bananas before I hit the road.

Dusk Blossoms

One of my favorite spots in the neighborhood is a rose garden that’s incredibly reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland. Though it’s a relatively peaceful spot in town, a twilight stroll in the crisp Fall air amid its fields of iridescent flowers can lead one to look for curiouser and curiouser things around each meticulously-pruned corner.

Seasonal Afflictions

It’s a sure sign that the seasons are changing when I begin to suffer from allergies. Although I’ve literally been a bit under the weather the last few days, my mental fog hasn’t prevented me from noticing that Halloween decorations are now hitting shelves. Though it may be a bit early to unearth my pumpkin, spider and skull collections, I may use my sister’s upcoming visit as an excuse to start prepping for what might be my favorite holiday.

This year, I’ve already added a few things (like these and these) to my ever-expanding arsenal. After seeing these pictures, I’ve also started to realize that other creepy DIYs involving ghosts, bats, mice and snakes really need to be incorporated into the mix too.

Winding Down

Though you wouldn't know it from recent posts, I've been out of town over the past few days for work.  Although I love exploring new places, meeting new people, dining out, and sleeping on crisp hotel sheets, there's something to be said for coming home to your own bed. I have a feeling that I'll be taking it easy this weekend....

Coats & Homes

I’ve been reluctantly digging my coats out of the closet in preparation for the onslaught of cooler weather. I’ve been simultaneously convincing myself that if I had Emerson Fry’s new Wingtip Leopard Linen Coat, I’d not only have a new place to stick one of my giant flower pins, but my life would somehow be complete.

Until that day comes, I’ll just have to fill the void by staring longingly at the label namesake’s perfect home. After taking a look, you’ll understand why vintage pennants are also on my wish list. Luckily, my boyfriend is fully on board with this need (it’s never too hard to convince him of anything if Wisconsin memorabilia is involved) and I suspect we’ll have a few before the end of football season.  Now, if only we had a big brick fireplace…

No Lifeguard

Even though autumn is my favorite season of the year, I always find the end of summer to be bittersweet. There’s something so desolate about the unattended beach that it’s nearly impossible to remember the heat and crowds that claimed it just a few weeks ago. At this time of year, it almost feels as though you have the entirety of Lake Michigan and the distant, twinkling City of Chicago to yourself.
